Student Exercises

  1. Students and teachers find music selections to purchase via Public Radio Music Source. They search playlists to find a selection heard on the radio, check out the bestseller and new releases lists, or find specialty CDs created for Minnesota Public Radio and National Public Radio programs.
  2. Live radio broadcasts are an affordable way for students to be exposed to a variety of musical performances. Students tune in to performances for homework or extra-credit assignments, completing performance reviews or response papers to demonstrate their listening. Teachers and students can use the following Web sites to find schedules for live performance broadcasts: Minnesota Orchestra, The Opera, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and The New Releases.

Tips and Techniques

  • Remember to have students cite sources for information or quotations they use in reports, reviews, multimedia documents, or other educational projects, including photos and audio clips. Students should include the following information in their citation: document title or description, date of publication or when they found it on the Web, an address (URL), and, if possible, the author, photographer, or artist.
