Sound Learning Monthly Feature: Logging on and Losing Out

Thanks to the glamorous presentation of championship poker on television and the proliferation of online gambling sites, poker is now becoming more than just a friendly game for high school and college kids. For January, Sound Learning explores the sudden rise in gambling addiction among adolescents and young adults with the American RadioWorks documentary "Logging on and Losing Out" — available as streamed audio or in a convenient, downloadable podcast.

This month's Web site includes an annotated transcript to help you use the documentary in a class discussion about Internet poker and the rise in gambling addiction among adolescents and young adults. Also included on this month's Web site are lesson templates and resources to practice reading comprehension or research gambling addiction. Both activities correlate with the Minnesota Graduation Standards in reading comprehension or media literacy and are adjustable to fit within your schedule.

Use these lesson templates to quickly develop lessons to use the "Logging on and Losing Out" documentary in your language arts or social studies curriculum.
