Sound Learning Monthly Feature: The Soul of War

Since September 11th, 2001 over 1.3 million men and women have served in Afghanistan and Iraq. Nearly 1 million have returned to their civilian lives. While many successfully reintegrate with civilian life, others will suffer from post-traumatic stress that remains long after combat.

For November, Sound Learning features a Speaking of Faith interview with Chaplain Major John Morris about his combat experience and pioneering program to support soldiers returning to civilian life. In the interview, he describes how combat affects one's world-view and why our society must find new language, rituals and practices to support all veterans as they return to their families, their communities, and civilian life.

This month's feature includes an annotated transcript, vetted resources and ready-to-go ideas to develop a class discussion around the topics of faith, combat stress, and the role of religion in the Iraq war.

Use the entire lesson or create a customized version to hold a class discussion on the affects of war.
